Visa requirement introduced for Eswatini, Lesotho and Nauru
From 10 March 2025 nationals of Eswatini, Lesotho and Nauru need an Irish visa before travelling, and a transit visa to pass through the State.
Since 10 March 2025, citizens of Eswatini, Lesotho and Nauru have required an Irish visa before travelling to the State. A transit visa is also required when passing through Ireland to another destination.
Transitional arrangements
A transitional arrangement covered people who had booked and paid for travel before 10 March and were due to travel on or before 31 March 2025. Emergency travel requests were directed to Immigration Service Delivery by email.
The transitional arrangement has expired.
Planning travel
The change affects visitors, including family members travelling to join residents in Ireland. Airlines check travel documents before boarding, and an existing booking does not replace a required visa.
Travellers from these countries should allow time for a visa application when arranging their trip.
